Course Description

The Oral History Storytelling Workshop (previously known as the Oral History Summer Institute) is designed for participants to get hands-on experience with oral history project design, recording technology, and interview techniques. Whether you are starting your first oral history project, or you are ready to enhance your skills as an oral history interviewer, the Oral History Storytelling Workshop's combination of instruction, workshop, and feedback sessions has something to offer participants at a variety of levels and interests. The workshop welcomes anyone interested in oral history, including family historians and genealogists, public/community historians, researchers, community organizers, students, and academics.


Requirement

To become a campus that nourishes a culture of consent, it is important that we understand the myths and truths about sexual violence and rape culture, the following training is a requirement and must be completed prior to the start of this oral history course; Understanding and Responding to Sexual Violence Level One.

  • Please present the certificate to your instructor prior to class.
  • If you do not already have a Moodle account you can self-enrol at the link above and work through the course.

Did you know you can register for the COHT Oral History Storytelling Workshop for credit?

Post-secondary students have the option of enrolling in the COHT Oral History Storytelling Workshop for credit. 

  • For-Credit - ULethbridge Students who register in the non-credit option will NOT be granted academic credit for the course now or at a later date.
  • In order to receive academic credit uLethbridge students must register in the for-credit course (IDST 3850: Oral History Storytelling Workshop) through the Bridge.

  • For-Credit - non ULethbridge Students: Open Studies registration allows a community member to register for a course without gaining admission to a University program.
  • Upon successful registration into and completion of this course, you will be awarded credit that could be applied to a future degree, diploma or certificate. For more information please click here
