Course Description
The i4Geo Geospatial Science & Technology Series is a dynamic, hands-on workshop series designed to provide participants with advanced skills and practical knowledge across a broad spectrum of geospatial analyses and applications. All modules can be taken in a ‘watch and learn’ style, however some also offer the option to bring your own laptop and follow along with exercises, provided necessary software and files are preloaded.
The Indigenous Community Engagement workshop is part of the i4Geo Geospatial Science & Technology Series, designed to foster a deeper understanding of Indigenous perspectives and practices in geography, land management, and geospatial technologies. This workshop focuses on the intersection of Indigenous knowledge systems, geographic approaches, and modern mapping technologies to address environmental, cultural, and sovereignty-related challenges.

- Land Stewardship: Indigenous practices in caring for and managing land.
- Land Rights and Indigenous Sovereignty: The role of geography in supporting sovereignty and land rights.
- Indigenous Mapping and Technology: Using GIS and remote sensing to represent Indigenous lands and knowledge.
- Decolonizing Geography and Indigenous Knowledge Systems: Integrating traditional ecological knowledge into geospatial science. • Water and Indigenous Communities: Addressing water rights and resource management from an Indigenous perspective.
- Indigenous Ecological Restoration and Geographic Approaches: Applying geographic tools to support restoration efforts.
- The Role of Indigenous Languages in Geographic Knowledge: Preserving and incorporating linguistic knowledge in mapping and geography.
- Natural Resource Management and Indigenous Perspectives: Collaborative approaches to resource management.
